Winter Tires

Read the rules here

Danish version: Vinterdæk

What does the law say?
From July 1st 2025, you may not drive with “obviously unsuitable tires” when there is snow, ice, slush, or frost. This means that summer tires are prohibited under such winter conditions. Violating this rule may result in a fine of DKK 1,000 per tire.

Which tires are legal?
Winter tires or all-season tires with the Three Peak Mountain Snowflake (3PMSF) symbol (snowflake + mountain). In addition, the minimum tread depth requirement is 1.6 mm.
Tires marked M+S are approved as winter tires. However, if you need to drive in “severe winter conditions,” winter tires with the 3PMSF marking are recommended, as these are specifically designed for harsh winter weather.

When do the rules apply?
There is no fixed “winter season.” The rules apply when the weather demands it – that is, during snow, ice, slush, or frost. The police will assess whether the tires are suitable under the circumstances.
